Prayer Request October 18, 2007

Brothers and Sisters, I sit here tonight with a heart that is growing heavier by the hour.

As some of you already know, my youngest daughter, Becky, who is four years old, has been battling a staph infection/ cellulitis for the past month.

I have read reports on the internet that this bacteria has, in many cases, mutated to being anti-biotic resistant.

Which is scary.

The antibiotic-proof form of staph is called MRSA.
Her first bout with staph we combated for ten days with a prescribed antibiotic and steroid treatment.

After about a week, the visible symptoms disappeared and for a few days everything seemed to be back to normal.

About four days later, it resurfaced as cellulitis.

Her symptoms were that her face was swollen and dark pink. The area around her right eye was so puffy that it was almost closed completely.

The doctor prescribed another ten days of the same treatment but with an increased dosage of the antibiotic.

Today is the tenth day and while the swelling has gone back down and her color is normal, we have noticed what appears to be yet another little spot on her wrist which is itchy and pink.

Looks like more staph, but could be something else (?)

For a man who talks so much about Jesus Christ, I find that in times such as these, my faith is little more than a glowing cinder.

While most cases of staph are treatable, and are usually resolved easily with proper treatment, some have proven to be fatal.

Brothers and Sisters,

I don’t know if I could come to you in a more vulnerable way than I am right now.

Please pray for her, that she would be healed of this wretched illness.

In Him,

Your brother johnny

Oh Father, take Becky into your hands and let Your healing touch wash away this enemy of health that has invaded her body. Purify her body with Your Spirit and bring her back to full strength in the physical and spiritual realms. You are the LORD our Healer and we ask with all our hearts that You pour out Your healing rain today on this precious soul of Yours. Let Your peace reign in this household and calm the fears of her loved ones. Give them Your assurance that Becky is in Your loving hands. Revive her, for Your Name’s Sake, Oh LORD! These requests are asked in the powerful name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Thank you, Saints, for your heartfelt prayers.
I know the Lord hears, and I know that He is good.

If these prayers mean half as much to Him as they do me, then my hope is high above the heavens…
And, at least right now, I am greatly encouraged and have more hope than I have in days.

Thank you.

The doctor prescribed a different antibiotic for her which she starts tonight.
In addition, I have been researching some alternative health care remedies.

I have read quite a bit about the benefits of using turmeric for cellulitis and MRSA.

Just to be clear, we still do not know if this strain of staph is in fact MRSA, but we do know that it is stubborn!

But it is not as stubborn as our God is good, amen?

Please stand with me in this Truth!!!
God bless you all and thank you again!

Hi Johnny. Just wanted you to know I am continuing to lift Becky up in prayer. Is she doing any better yet? I picture her sweet little face when I pray for her and have gotten a wonderful sense of God’s love for her. She is in His care!

14. brotherjohnny - October 24, 2007

Thank you all so much.
Well, the spots on her right hand seem to be a tad better than they were yesterday.
There is also a new spot on her left hand that crept up two days ago which seems to also be doing a little better today.
The wonderful thing through all of this is that she has been in good spirits the whole time, an encouragement to my soul.
Monday the 29th will be the last day of this round of antibiotics, so we will see what her status is like at that point.

The doctor said that if her condition is still there a week after her last dose, that they could test for MRSA.

At this point, I am resting in the Lord, and continue to commit the matter over to Him.

I also had an accident at work today which busted my two front teeth almost in half….
It didn’t hurt much earlier, but it is starting to now.
Hopefully, I’ll get a dentist appointment this week (haven’t been since I was eighteen! YIKES!!).

I’m re-discovering His strength…as I continue to resign.

The Lord is good.
