Thanks for your comment, Jerald, and it was good seeing you and Marie last night.
While I do believe that 'the sin' is "self reign at the encouragement of the serpent", I also believe that 'the sin' is the root "sin" of any and all other sins as well.
This is what it means to 'walk after the flesh'.

In other words, all sin and or sins stem from 'self-reign'.

"Are we to continue in "the" sin ....?

Absolutely not. We have been freed from that cruel taskmaster by the death of Jesus.

"...do not let "the" sin reign in your mortal body..."

Amen. It has no authority.
Jesus Christ is King of kings and Lord of Lords.

If we reign, then "the" sin reigns.

I'll take that a step further:
If the sin reigns, then Satan reigns, and he uses us as a vessel to fulfil his desires.

I believe that we express either one or the other....
Christ or the evil one.

In fact, I'll be writing about this soon as I continue this series of Romans 6,7, and 8 (and a bit of chapter 9, as I believe the translators were a bit off in where they broke chapter 8 off).

Any bit of Chirst you see in me, is indeed by His grace and that by necessity!!
All praise to the Most High!

Johnny, I appreciate very much your quoting from Young's Literal Translation at the beginning of your post. "The sin" is what I believe Paul is talking about, not just sin or sins. And, I believe you correctly identified this "the sin" by saying it is that "which is simply the exchange of the reign of God in the heart for self-reign, as proposed by the serpent….,"
In the first sentence of Romans 6 Paul asks ths question we all should answer, "Are we to continue in "the" sin ....? and then in verse 12, "...do not let "the" sin reign in your mortal body..."
It's always been about "who reigns?"! If we reign, then "the" sin reigns. If He reigns, then we are living "the" life of Another just like He said He did when He told Phillip, "Have I been with you all this time and you still don't know me? If you've seen me you have seen the Father." Jesus lived the life of the Father and wants us to live the life of Another too.
I see Him in you, Johnny. This is good. This is very good. Praise God for His wonderful grace!

Hi bro. I was just reading in Romans chap 7 this morning. "I had not known sin but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said Thou shalt not covet."

Indeed we are to be dead to the old self and alive unto Christ. Blessings always in Jesus name.

Thanks, Richard...
or how about a message on 'The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus'?
Or even better, the Living experience thereof?

In Christ we have died to sin, and In Christ we may present ourselves as ALIVE unto God just as in Christ we have died to the law and have been united to The Risen Lord!!

Peace to you, Richard, In JESUS CHRIST.

Thanks, bro
